Randy Moore rolled out of the Army eight years ago, but he's
still in military communications.
With a new office that has a view of Fort Gordon, Mr. Moore
believes his company, RLM Communications Inc., is in the right
spot for growth.
The Fayetteville, N.C.-based training and communications firm
christened its new office Friday. The company has been in
Augusta since July, setting up shop in a temporary location on
Wheeler Road before moving to Madeline Drive off Jimmie Dyess
Parkway.
Since setting up this summer, the firm has added 12 people
locally. It has 75 employees throughout the company.
"Fort Gordon is an economy-driving engine of the community. This
is just another example of that," said Augusta Mayor Deke
Copenhaver.
Mr. Moore, a former sergeant major at Fort Bragg, went to work
for BAE Systems after 20 years of military service. After some
night school, he started RLM Communications in 2004 -- basing
the company's name off his initials, Randy Lee Moore.
"I'm a communication signalier by trade. We knew at some point
in our future that we wanted to come to Fort Gordon," Mr. Moore
said. "Fort Gordon is the tip of the spear in terms of
technology and training."
At Fort Gordon, staff members train personnel on information
assurance, making sure communications are secure.
"There is a high level of intellectual capital here. We are
becoming a magnet for training and education programs," said Sue
Parr, executive director of the Metro Augusta Chamber of
Commerce.
The company also provides technical assistance overseas for
special operations clients, builds command centers and trains
special operations communications at Fort Bragg.
