Change of Command
Col. Daniel S. Mettling relinquished command of 116th Military Intelligence Brigade to Col. Ernesto A. Cortez during a change of command ceremony held Aug. 10 on Barton Field. The ceremony was presided by Brig. Gen Robert G. Michnowicz, deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Intelligence and Security Command, Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
A lesser-known unit, the 116th MI Bde. is the Army’s subject matter expert on aerial intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance. The brigade was officially established on Oct. 1, 2015.
During his remarks, Michnowicz praised Mettling for successes the brigade achieved under his leadership the past two years. Capturing the magnitude of his impact, Michnowicz said the brigade successfully conducted ISR in support of all six functional geographic combatant commands and the U.S. Special Operations Command spanning across 18 locations around the world.
