Esper Sets Sights on 500,000-Strong Army

Army Secretary Mark Esper last week said one of his priorities for next year’s defense authorization bill was continuing to increase the service’s end strength. “We aim to see by 2028, and certainly sooner than that, an active-duty end strength of greater than 500,000 soldiers with associated growth in the Guard and Reserve,” Esper told reporters while visiting Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.
