The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes, in collaboration with Starbucks, last week launched a three-year campaign to raise awareness of military spouse unemployment and encourage employers to make military spouse hiring commitments. After President Trump signed an executive order in May to increase hiring of military spouses in the federal government, “Now it is the private sector’s turn to make military spouse employment a top priority,” Eric Eversole, president of Hiring Our Heroes and vice president at the chamber, said in a written statement. … Separately, Microsoft is setting up a military spouse technology academy this fall, reports Military Times. The academy will redefine retention of careers for spouses to mean how long a spouse “can continue to pursue and continue to progress, regardless of whether [he or she] works for Hilton, Starbucks, Microsoft or USAA,” said Danny Chung, Microsoft’s chief of staff for military affairs.
