New garrison commander introduced at Fort Gordon
Col. Jim Clifford became the garrison commander Tuesday.
There’s a new garrison commander at Fort Gordon.
Col. Jim Clifford stepped into Col. Todd Turner’s shoes Tuesday morning, taking over as the garrison commander to run the day-to-day operations at Fort Gordon. The garrison commander is not the same as the commanding general, but instead has a role that can be related to that of a city administrator.
Turner, who had been the garrison commander since 2016, will move to North Carolina as the Special Operations deputy commander, Aviation Tactics Evaluation at Fort Bragg.
Clifford was commissioned as a signal officer in 1994 after graduating from Rutgers University. He comes to Augusta from Fort Bragg. His deployments include support for Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, as well as Operation Joint Endeavor in Bosnia.
